Dhofar Khareef 2025: Oman Unveils Expanded Tourism Experience at Arabian Travel Market

Published: April 30, 2025
Oman has unveiled plans for Dhofar Khareef 2025 at Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, featuring expanded cultural events, entertainment zones, and infrastructure upgrades for the monsoon season running June 21-September 20.

In a significant announcement at the Arabian Travel Market 2025 in Dubai, Oman has revealed ambitious plans for the upcoming Dhofar Khareef 2025 season. The annual monsoon season, which transforms Oman's southern region into a lush green landscape, will officially run from June 21 to September 20, 2025.

The press conference was led by Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsen Al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, alongside His Excellency Azzan bin Qasim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Tourism. They outlined how the 2025 season will feature an expanded visitor experience with a diverse mix of cultural, entertainment, and family-oriented events throughout Salalah and nearby coastal wilayats.

The Khareef season, meaning "autumn" in Arabic, is a unique natural phenomenon in the Arabian Peninsula where monsoon winds from the Indian Ocean create misty, verdant landscapes that stand in stark contrast to the typical desert environment. The 2024 season was highly successful, attracting over 1.048 million tourists, representing a 9% increase from the previous year.

For 2025, several key venues have been designated for special events. Atin Square will serve as the primary location for international events, featuring a shopping zone, open-air theatre, and gaming area, complete with lighting and laser shows. Awqad Park will host family entertainment activities, while Salalah Public Park will be dedicated to sports events. Cultural performances by both local and international artists will take place at Al Marooj Theatre.

In preparation for the influx of visitors, Dhofar Municipality is undertaking significant infrastructure and urban development projects, including road improvements and upgrades to various tourist sites. Marketing campaigns targeting Gulf and regional markets have already been launched, incorporating Arabic media advertising, social media outreach, and participation in major travel exhibitions.

The expanded programming for Khareef 2025 reflects Oman's strategic vision to leverage this natural seasonal attraction alongside cultural and entertainment offerings, supporting the country's year-round tourism goals and economic diversification strategies.
