Tesla expands real-world Full Self-Driving testing with billions of new miles of data

Tesla is making a significant leap forward in its pursuit of fully autonomous driving by expanding its Full Self-Driving (FSD) testing program, now powered by an astonishing over 6 billion miles of real-world driving data from its global fleet.
The automaker has broadened its Early Access Program, granting more drivers the ability to test the latest supervised FSD versions before they reach the public, a sign of increased confidence in the technology’s capabilities and safety.
This expansion is allowing Tesla to rapidly collect diverse, high-quality data from a wider variety of roads, weather, and traffic conditions worldwide, which continues to feed and refine the company's advanced AI neural networks.
Recent milestones show exponential growth: in just the first quarter of 2025, Tesla vehicles added more than 1.6 billion miles of FSD driving, an unprecedented rate that cements Tesla’s undisputed data advantage over competitors such as Waymo and Cruise.
With FSD now available in North America and recently launched in China, and supervised versions poised to expand to new markets, Tesla is closing in on its goal of deploying unsupervised robotaxi services as soon as regulatory approval is secured—starting with Austin, Texas, in mid-2025.
By leveraging this unparalleled reservoir of real-world data, Tesla’s FSD software is improving its ability to navigate complex scenarios, increase safety, and accelerate the timeline toward fully autonomous mobility for consumers and commercial ride-hailing applications.
