Slovenia has signed a Letter of Intent with Finland to procure Patria AMV XP 8x8 armoured vehicles, marking a significant step in modernizing its ground forces. The agreement, signed on February 13, 2025, in Brussels by Slovenian Defense Minister Borut Sajovic and Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen, paves the way for Slovenia to acquire these advanced combat vehicles. This move comes after Slovenia's previous decision to cancel an order for German-made Boxer vehicles in 2022. The Patria AMV XP 8x8 is known for its high mobility, protection, and firepower, making it a valuable addition to Slovenia's military capabilities. While the exact number of vehicles and cost have not been officially disclosed, reports suggest Slovenia aims to field 106 vehicles at an estimated cost of €695 million. This procurement is part of Slovenia's commitment to form a medium battle group for NATO and represents a significant upgrade to its armed forces. The collaboration between Slovenia and Finland in this defense deal also highlights the growing trend of intra-European cooperation in military procurement.
