The 2025 Met Gala will celebrate Black dandyism with a star-studded event featuring co-chairs Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, Anna Wintour, and honorary chair LeBron James.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced its highly anticipated 2025 Met Gala theme: "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," scheduled for the first Monday in May 2025. This prestigious fashion event will coincide with The Costume Institute's spring exhibition running from May 10 through October 26, 2025, at The Met Fifth Avenue.

The exhibition presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style spanning three centuries through the concept of dandyism. Rooted in the intersection of African and European style traditions, Black dandyism emerged during the 18th-century Atlantic world when a new culture of consumption enabled access to clothing that indicated wealth and distinction.

This year's Met Gala will feature an impressive lineup of co-chairs including Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James serving as honorary chair. The Met is also reviving its longstanding tradition of a Host Committee comprising actors, artists, athletes, designers, filmmakers, musicians, and writers.

The dress code for the evening has been announced as "Tailored for You," referencing the exhibition's focus on suiting and menswear. This theme invites creative interpretation while providing guidance inspired by the exhibition's exploration of how self-presentation serves as a mode of distinction and resistance within society.

Organized into 12 sections representing characteristics that define the style—such as Champion, Respectability, Heritage, Beauty, and Cosmopolitanism—the exhibition will feature garments, accessories, paintings, photographs, and decorative arts from the 18th century to today.

The exhibition and benefit are made possible by Louis Vuitton, with major funding provided by Instagram, the Hobson/Lucas Family Foundation, Africa Fashion International, and The Perry Foundation, with additional support from Condé Nast.
